In 2020, researchers reviewed 27 studies on the effectiveness of support groups and found improved rates of sobriety, more days abstinent and a reduction in addiction severity.

SMART Recovery Meetings
SMART Recovery uses evidence-based techniques, like cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), focused on building motivation, coping with urges, managing thoughts and living a balanced life.
These meetings are preferred by many ICFR patients and are the most widespread alternative to AA and NA 12-step meetings. SMART Recovery emphasizes self-empowerment instead of powerlessness, does not have a core spiritual component and can also be less judgmental.

Alcoholics Anonymous Meetings
Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) offers the most recovery support meetings in the world, available near you throughout Indiana any day of the week and when traveling.
AA meetings are based on a 12-step program that encourages participants to admit powerlessness over alcohol, seek help from a higher power and support each other in staying sober. Over 2 million people attend AA and many of them cite the program as life-saving.
“I met my best friends at AA meetings. Everyone there gets you on a level that even my family couldn’t understand. I don’t always look forward to going, but I never regret it. 12-step gets a bad rap. It’s about getting serious about your recovery, getting support and becoming a better person.”
